Dhikala 2N/3D Tour in Jim Corbett National Park

The Legend of Dhikala: A 3-Day Expedition into the Heart of the Core Zone

There are holidays, and then there are expeditions. Staying at the Dhikala Forest Lodge falls firmly into the second category.

Imagine driving 31 kilometers deeper into the jungle than any other tourist. Imagine leaving behind luxury pools, Wi-Fi, and city sounds for a rustic room where the only thing between you and a Royal Bengal Tiger is a solar-powered electric fence.

Dhikala is the "Holy Grail" of Indian wildlife. It is the only place in Jim Corbett where you can live inside the core tiger habitat. At Corbett Step, we specialize in the "mission impossible" of securing these highly coveted permits so you can experience the forest exactly as it was a hundred years ago.

The Itinerary: Living the Jungle Life

Day 1: Leaving Civilization Behind

  • 10:00 AM: Meet our team at Ramnagar. This is the last time you’ll see a "town" for three days.
  • The Gateway: We enter through the Dhangarhi Gate. This is where the magic starts.
  • The 31km Journey In: The drive from the gate to the lodge is a 1.5-hour safari in itself. You’ll cross the Ramganga River and pass through dense Sal forests. Keep your cameras out—tigers and elephants are often spotted before you even check in!
  • Check-in: Settle into the historic Dhikala complex. Enjoy a simple, hot buffet lunch at the canteen.
  • Safari #1 (Afternoon): We explore the vast Chaurs (grasslands). This is the prime hunting ground for tigers and the favorite grazing spot for wild elephant herds.
  • Stay: Overnight at Dhikala Forest Lodge.

Day 2: The Rhythm of the Ramganga

  • 05:30 AM: The jungle wake-up call. No alarms needed—the birds will handle it.
  • Safari #2 (Morning): We head to the "Paar" area (across the river). The morning mist rising off the Ramganga River with the Himalayas in the background is the most cinematic view in all of Corbett.
  • The Viewing Deck: During the quiet mid-day hours, sit on the famous Dhikala deck. With binoculars in hand, you can spot crocodiles, gharials, and thirsty deer by the river without even leaving the lodge.
  • Safari #3 (Afternoon): We track the "big ones." Your guide will focus on fresh pugmarks and the intense alarm calls of the Langurs.
  • Stay: Overnight at Dhikala Forest Lodge.

Day 3: The Reluctant Exit

  • Safari #4 (Final Morning): One last chance to catch that perfect tiger shot or witness a rare bird species. Soak in the silence of the core zone one last time.
  • Breakfast & Farewell: Enjoy your final meal at the canteen and check out.
  • The Bonus Safari: The 31km drive back to the Dhangarhi Gate is your final chance for a sighting. Many of our guests have had their best encounters on the way out!
  • 12:00 PM: Exit the gate and head back to Ramnagar for your onward journey.

Why Dhikala is Non-Negotiable for Wildlife Lovers

  1. Exclusivity: Only people staying inside Dhikala are allowed to do Jeep Safaris in this zone. No "outside" day-trip Jeeps are allowed here, making it the most private experience in the park.
  2. The Heritage: The Old Forest Rest House is a century-old British-era building. To stay here is to step back in time.
  3. The Soundscape: At night, there is no hum of electricity or cars. You will hear the leopard’s saw-like call and the elephant’s trumpet right outside your fence.

The Corbett Step Booking Warning

Dhikala is the most high-demand destination in Indian wildlife. Permits open 45 to 90 days in advance and often sell out within the first 10 minutes.

Don't leave it to chance. We at Corbett Step handle the complex government booking portal every single day. We know the tricks, the timings, and the paperwork required to get you inside.
